Real step up Ronaldo chase

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon is willing to break the bank in order to bring Manchester United's Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

Real continue to be linked with the 23-year-old even though United are unhappy with what they perceive to be the Spanish side's attempts to unsettle their player.

"The price is not important," Calderon is quoted as saying in The Sun.

"We had a player like (Zinedine) Zidane who came here for £47million and it was a magnificent investment. It's not a question of money but a question of efficiency."

Calderon also criticised United for lodging a formal complaint with FIFA about Real's tactics in trying to sign Ronaldo, adding: "The case of Cristiano does not affect the image of the club abroad.

"I would be proud if big clubs made multi-million offers for Real Madrid players.

"In the end, if a player wants to leave - whatever the offer is - he will walk. The question is to give him guarantees of success."
